A Wee Scottish Walk

A Wee Scottish Walk
This year I decided to do a short tour of Scotland, taking in both lowland and high. Because I had little time to enjoy the view I decided to start on the west coast Scotland. I saw some famous castles and an abbey before going to see Glen Nevis, a magnificent and panoramic wilderness at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland, on the outskirts of Inverness. I ended my trip with a visit to last place Britain, where civil war had been delivered.
My journey began when I went to Dumfries and Galloway, on the southern coast, a county in which the borders of England. I knew a bit about the history of the region, and I wanted to see one of the historic buildings I saw on the Internet. This was the Abbey of affection.
New Abbey, also known as the Abbey of affection, is eight miles south of Dumfries. It was founded in 1275 by Dervorguilla of Galloway, daughter of Alan, Lord of Galloway. It did so in memory of her husband John Balliol.

His embalmed heart was buried next to her in an ivory box and the money when she died. The monks of the Abbey Abbey renamed in tribute to her. The couple's son, John, became king of Scotland. His reign was tragically short. The graves were lost years of depredations.

New Abbey is made of local sandstone and was founded as a daughter at home Dundrennan Abbey. The Novum Monasterium, New Monastery known as the new abbey.
Dumfries and Galloway I left and went to the outskirts of Ayr in Ayrshire, where I found Culzean Castle and Country Park, which was given to Kennedy Family Foundation covers a total of 563 hectares.

Robert Adams, his father and brothers were famous designers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Many of its buildings still exist in various parts of Britain and are protected as monuments. Culzean Castle is one of those. Robert Adams designed the castle and is considered its final masterpiece. The castle is associated with the Kennedy Clan eventful history.

The castle houses a fine collection of 18th century pictures and furniture with an array that has been created in the 19th century. The beautiful oval staircase is the ultimate masterpiece of Robert Adam interiors, and there is no finer tribute to this great architect. I urge all those who visit Scotland to consider the possibility of this impressive building.
President Eisenhower gave Culzean freedom after World War II and got his own apartment in the building for the rest of his life.
Progress in the periphery Ayr, it was not long in Kilmarnock, where I found the Dean of castle completely restored. This beautiful building was (naturally), known as Kilmarnock Castle until it is presented to the city by Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock in 1960 and changed the name of the Dean of the woods.
The castle belonged to the clan Sulis, who were descendants of the French leaders of Britain, arriving after 1066. Castillo then passed to the Clan Boyd in the 16th century. The incumbent Lord Kilmarnock had the distinction of being beheaded in 1746 in London, after taking the wrong side of the Jacobite rebellion.
The castle was largely ruined. The only complete original building is the Dower House, a house built by their owners in the century 20. The house was absolutely necessary, because the castle is a ruin. It was restored by a combination of subscription and public funding. The great hall of the castle walls more than three feet thick, not a round tower, a dungeon in which I went and sat without electricity for a few seconds, and a well in the yard. Throughout the castle wall Wood is a closed, it would have been used by the owner of the house in case of rain when the need for a pleasant stroll. This is known as the Virgin Walk.
Also in Ayrshire, just across the water from the ferry to do, I visited Arran, Ardrossan leave the ground to get there. Castle Brodick Castle is a red sandstone located in a wooded area very quiet at the foot of the mountain Goatfell. Its location provides stunning views over Brodick Bay. The name Brodick comes from the Norse word meaning wide bay. Arran average peaked in the Gaelic island.

The castle was built on the site of a Viking fortress. Its content includes money for quality, exquisite porcelain, paintings and sporting trophies.
The castle contains a beautiful garden and the rest of the surrounding area has been designated as a park. The garden trees began in 1923 and now houses a renowned collection of rhododendrons. You can see a restored Victorian garden while visiting the park and enjoy the waterfalls, ravines, a kind Garden Room, wildlife and hiking trails.

Beware the Ice House. That's where the ice is used to winter in a hole in the ground and then stored in preparation for the summer. The summer home in Bavaria in 1845 is a hexagonal structure of wood and decorated with elaborate arrangements of blocks of pine.

Leaving Ayrshire went into my rental car through Loch Ness, where the famous monster supposed to live through to Glencoe and Glen Nevis, which comes from the Gaelic Nibheis Gleann.

The beautiful Glen Nevis Home to one of the three highest waterfalls in Scotland, including Steall Falls, where the Allt Coire a'Mhail water joins Nevis. By below the waterfall is an impressive fortified ravine.
Highland Council have ensured that passengers in Glen Nevis, is a car
Park at the entrance of the railway along the throat. There is a fairly steep slope of the road and take in the tranquil valley. A bridge leads across the wire at the base of the waterfall. A sign in the car warns that steep is potentially lethal, but the Council has improved access and erosion of soils with some of its building measures on the road. Soil erosion is a hikers unfortunate consequence of many stakeholders in this field. But the measures taken by the Council have reduced this problem.

One reason for the reputation this region is that its natural beauty means it has been chosen as a first-places in the "Harry Potter" films. I also was surprised that Glen Nevis has been used in major film Braveheart with Mel Gibson, and Rob Roy, starring Liam Neeson. Fort William authorities are clearly forward-looking statements and information that the promotion of feature film production to meet income and show the beauty of the region, promote tourism in the future.
Now that summer in the mountains I decided to visit Inverness, which is still in place in Fort William. Just outside of Inverness is an area of historical importance or Drumossie called Culloden Moor. It is here that the battle of Culloden happened April 16, 1746. These last battle to be fought in Britain. He was a French-supported Jacobites and the British Hannover, and was caused by the Jacobite attempt to restore the house of Stuart on the throne of Great Britain.

The Jacobites supported Charles Edward Stuart claim to the throne - was also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie. The Duke of Cumberland, known as Butcher Cumberland, supported the cause of his father. He was the youngest son of the Prince of Hanover, King George II. He acquired the nickname "Butcher" for his brutality during and after the battle, when his order was to leave no man standing.
Culloden has a visitor center where you can see weapons and items related to the battle, a program of audio / visual in a variety of languages, a shop and a restaurant. There are facilities for disabled visitors. The latest audio-visual show is half an hour before closing.
I enjoyed my visit to the highlands and lowlands of Scotland. With little time for my trip - five days in my case - I could not visit all the attractions that I wanted to see, but it just means I'll have to come back soon to see what remains of this great country has to offer.
All the attractions was to be seen in a web directory. East:
www.scotland-placestovisit.com
Scotland - Places to visit in the directory entries and pictures of Scotland's attractions and activities. It also contains a series of articles on Scottish words, recipes and places to eat. There a great resource for the traveler, each entry giving the exact location, addresses and contact numbers. The links are provided Multimap Web sites and attractions involved. Try not be disappointed.
