My sister had Guinea Pigs. She had a male and got another male, and they fought for superiority. She got a female and they battled over the female.

There were then baby Guinea Pigs, which she separated with the Mother, because the Males continued to fight.

Regarding the playpen. She separated the males and put them in a large wooden box and kept it on top of the dresser. One of the males ate through the bottom of the box and then through the top of the dresser, and made a bed in my sister's clothing. So, suggest you put a metal pan or a piece of glass under the cage.

You can use shredded newspaper for bedding. Plan to change it every few days, and wear gloves when you take the old stuff out.

Any size cage the Guinea Pig can turn around in is big enough, but you can be a better owner by making it big enough to put some toys in that can be pushed around.
