For a man, I really like "bespoke" clothing. That's where you go to a tailor and choose fabrics and have him make you a suit. You can specify what kind of collar it has, the lapel shape, how many buttons, how many pockets, etc. It's nice because he will measure you and make it fit perfectly.

Yes, you definitely do get to show off your style, but it is done in a tasteful way. It's not loud or obnoxious or over the top. Also, people can tell when a garment is well made vs. store bought. Off-the-rack clothing tends to not fit quite right, since they make things in a "Medium fits this range of bodies" kind of way. You know, your sportcoat was made to fit somebody with a 36 through 38 inch chest, not your specific body.

Generally you get what you pay for. If you try to make clothing yourself and be yoo-neek, the garment usually starts looking like it came from costume-land. If you have a professional do it, it looks top notch and well constructed and tasteful.

If you are interested in fashion design, I suggest you think about going to an Art Academy College. They will teach you sewing, design, and aesthetics, (i.e. what looks good and what looks weird.)
