Can i crate train a cat and a dog together?

In about 6 months i'm getting a Chihuahua and a Ragdoll cat. I read somewhere that if get them together and raise them together then i shouldn't have an problems with them getting along. I was thinking about crate Training them and i was wondering if i can crate train them together(sleeping in the same crate). I thought maybe they wont lonely at night if they're together.....I don't know it was just a thought

Chihuahuas can be pretty feisty and territorial, so if you put them into an enclosed area, as small as a crate, you COULD have some problems. It really depends on EACH ANIMAL and how they react to each other. Getting 2 carriers or crates and setting them SIDE BY SIDE would probably be better. That way they'd have each other for company, but couldn't GET TO each other.

I've heard that Rag Dolls are pretty laid-back, but I don't have any "personal" experience with them.

I have a Chihuahua and a Siamese/Himalayan who were raised together and they're best buddies, but I never closed them into anything together. Each of them needs to be able to "get out of the way" if things get too "tense".
